In News: UNESCAP UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND PACIFIC FOR UPSC/PSC 2024

 UNESCAP was established in 1947 and has its headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. Its primary objectives include:

1. Facilitating regional cooperation and integration to address economic, social, and environmental challenges.
2. Providing a platform for member states to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices.
3. Conducting research and analysis on key issues affecting the Asia-Pacific region.
4. Supporting capacity-building initiatives and technical assistance to member states.
5. Advocating for policies and strategies to achieve sustainable development goals in the region.

UNESCAP works closely with governments, civil society organizations, academia, and other stakeholders to advance its mission. It covers a wide range of areas including economic development, trade, infrastructure, environment, social development, statistics, and disaster risk reduction.
