INS VIKRANT In News

India has one active aircraft carrier in its fleet, INS Vikramaditya, which is a modified Kiev-class aircraft carrier acquired from Russia. Additionally, India has been developing its indigenous aircraft carrier program, with INS Vikrant being the first domestically built carrier, expected to be commissioned soon.
INS Vikrant is India's first indigenous aircraft carrier and is being constructed at the Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kerala. It is expected to be the largest warship ever built in India once completed. INS Vikrant has a displacement of around 40,000 to 45,000 tons and is capable of carrying a variety of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.

The carrier will be powered by four General Electric LM2500 gas turbines, enabling it to achieve a top speed of around 28 knots. Its air wing is expected to consist of MiG-29K/KUB multi-role fighters, Kamov Ka-31 AEW&C helicopters, and indigenous Tejas naval fighters.

INS Vikrant will significantly enhance India's naval capabilities, providing greater flexibility and power projection in the Indian Ocean region.
